“HR Things” is a locally produced dramedy, shot and set in Columbus, and created by GG Rodgers. The first season consists of 12 episodes, each one being about six minutes long.
Rodgers first developed the short series back in 2020 while recovering from COVID-19, allowing her time to watch TV and critically think about what she was consuming. “I saw that there was a gap, first of all, in the type of filmmaking that I’m used to,” she stated. “[Art] that gives you time to think and pause.”
One of the primary inspirations behind the series’ concept was Rodgers’ work in human resources. She wanted to “put a magnifying glass” on some of the realities and behind-the-scenes issues of working in that field through the use of humor. She said that she’s using the show to somewhat poke fun at HR while simultaneously defending it, making it relevant to the current climate of the industry.
“I mean, you can’t work without people,” she added. “People can say what they want about AI and machinery, but you need people, and so that’s why HR, in my opinion, is so valuable.”
Rodgers stated that she hopes people are not only entertained by the series, but they also learn something from watching. She stated that “HR Things” addresses many different workplace topics, such as appropriate attire, code-switching, hiring/firing, interviewing, microaggressions, micromanagement, punctuality, retention, sexual harassment and workplace policies.
“I touch on a lot of fun stuff that people will definitely find relatable, and if they didn’t do it, they’ll know somebody else who did,” she said, adding that she refrains from touching on anything too political or intense throughout the series.
The central character of the show is Quinn Roberts, a woman working as an HR director who experienced heartbreak off-screen, making her less vulnerable or personable in all aspects of her life. As a result, Quinn has taken on the persona of a “stern, prickly HR lady that people all love to hate,” according to Rodgers.
Rodgers added that throughout the show, viewers will hear mentions of Quinn’s ex several times and gain insight into why Quinn has put up walls and refuses to let anyone get close to her. “It shows a human and relatable side to her, of this person you think has it all together,” she stated. “She’s so stoic, put-together, but no, she’s hurting and scared like a lot of people are.”
The project was shot in 2025 over the span of four days. Rodgers’ pastors allowed her to use rooms in her home church, Cathedral of Prayer COGIC in Columbus, as the office spaces for the drama, while the home scenes were filmed in her apartment.
Local talent was involved in the making of “HR Things,” including Director of Photography Terrence D Flowers, Brandon Dunn (owner of Slice Pizza), and EJ Thomas (on-air personality at 98.3 The Beat). Rodgers added that most of the main actors are local to Columbus, but a few people from Atlanta were also involved, as well as a cast member who traveled all the way from Savannah to participate because he liked the script that much.
Rodgers stated that many of the cast members were involved even from the early stages of the project, including an attempt to begin filming back in 2022 that did not move forward. Due to this delay, she’s even more excited to debut the project this year, with a premiere event scheduled this coming July.
“I feel very blessed and fortunate, but it’s been a long time coming,” said Rodgers. “So that’s why this launch is gonna be so big, because I’m celebrating them.”
The complete first season will play during the premiere, with a runtime of approximately one hour. Rodgers says there will also be music, networking opportunities and refreshments.
“HR Things” was produced by Rodgers’ production company, PeachWay Pictures, and she says that they have a lot more in store in the future. Some of the projects she plans to work on include vertical microdramas and stories surrounding science fiction/fantasy. She hopes to collaborate with other creatives in the industry as they receive more funding and resources to expand their budget.
“I love my town. I love Columbus,” Rodgers added. “I’m from here, and I just want to blossom and take advantage of this beautiful city.”
The official launch premiere of “HR Things” will be held at The Gallery at Heritage on July 11, 2026, from 7 to 11 p.m. The season will then be officially released on YouTube the following day, July 12.
