Earlier this summer, the River Center for the Performing Arts transformed into a rhythmic tribute to hip-hop and rap as Blaq on Broadway 2 took the stage. Under the creative leadership of local music powerhouse C-Blaq and his band PitchBlaqout, this second installment was a masterclass in blending beats, bars, and a touch of classical flair — an unforgettable night that reminded Columbus just how alive our music scene truly is.
From the moment the house lights dimmed, it was clear this wasn’t your typical night at the theatre. With the smooth-talking Lade Breez commanding the mic as emcee, the energy in the room ignited and never let up. Well-known regional talents like Ria 706, Buddie Pachino, and Mark Hall brought the house down with performances that paid homage to the roots of rap while pushing its boundaries forward. And when the deejays — DJ Cashflow, OOKee, and others — spun their magic, the River Center felt more like an untraditional nightclub than a musical stage.
What set Blaq on Broadway 2 apart was its daring blend of genres. A sprinkle of orchestral elements wove through the beats, giving the night a cinematic edge that had the crowd on their feet — and on their seats — singing, dancing, and rapping every line back to the artists.
